Special Needs Treatment
Special needs individuals have all of the services services described under “Mental Health Treatment” available to them.
Being a parent or caregiver to an individual diagnosed with developmental delays is a very important job! Finding care for your loved one can often be a daunting task. Appropriate, knowledgeable professionals can be hard to find!
Everyone on staff at Sunshine Institute (our counselors, social worker, and occupational therapist) has experience working with individuals diagnosed with developmental delays. Working with this population was an inspiration for creating this practice so we specialize in serving the special needs community! At this time, approximately 40% of the clients seen at Sunshine Institute have been formally diagnosed with a developmental delay.
Please feel free to call or stop by with any questions regarding professional experience with developmental delays!
Our certified and licensed occupational therapists provide services to assist clients in developing skills to help them achieve their goals through therapeutic use of daily activities. Occupational therapy is different than talk therapy in that it utilizes a more holistic approach to help individuals adapt their environments in order to be more successful. Our clinicians work with individuals with sensory issues, self-harm, injuries, poor self-soothing skills, and anyone who has difficulty regulating their own bodies/emotions. Occupational therapy begins with an evaluation and treatment plan. Contact us today to further discuss how occupational therapy can help!
We understand that making the choice to get help is difficult enough without considering the financial aspect. We can work with you and your family to develop an affordable payment plan or review sliding scale pricing. We accept a variety of commercial insurance and Medicaid plans. Coverage depends on service provided and clinician rendering services.
Sunshine Institute is excited to offer yoga! At this point we are scheduling by appointment only but occasionally offer group and family classes. Join our mailing list by filling out the information on the home page so you never miss an opportunity to connect with yourself and others. Classes are led by Ashley Jacobus, Registered Yoga Teacher & Licensed Professional Counselor.
Yoga is helpful for decreasing anxiety, depression, and a variety of other behavioral and mental health concerns. Your practice also promotes self-awareness, self-empowerment, and is an incredible tool for self-care! Yoga can also improve emotional regulation, body awareness, and physical and mental health. All yoga sessions are trauma-informed and some classes are trauma-focused to assist individuals on a journey toward recovery.
Trauma-focused yoga is also available for those interested in movement-based trauma processing. Research has shown trauma is stored in the body as physical reactions typically accompanying traumatic experiences. Carefully selected movements combined with skilled processing techniques assist in facilitating a more thorough healing experience.
Yoga is offered for individuals, couples, families, groups of all ages, and abilities. We also welcome invitations to participate in events.
